Rock Hill Chiropractor Dr. Iva Hughes

“I didn’t truly understand chiropractic until I witnessed what I believe was a true chiropractic miracle."
I had just been hired as a full time Licensed Massage Therapist for a local chiropractor in my home area of Ohio. One of his regular patients had just given birth to her first child. It had been four days since the baby boy had entered this world and he had a number of problems already. The small boy had not slept more than 45 minutes at a time, could not lie on his back without shrieking and squirming until he wiggled himself onto his side, and he would barely eat. The mother was at her wits’ end when she brought in her child to be checked out. This pitiful child was weak and a sickly shade of gray. The doctor brought the baby into my therapy room, stripped him down to his diaper and cradled him face down in his hands. After feeling the baby’s spine, he pointed out a tiny bump where one of the baby’s lumbar vertebrae was out of alignment. With a slight thrust, the doctor adjusted the spine, returning the bone to where it should be. At once the baby’s color turned a perfect shade of newborn pink, let out a huge sigh of relief and promptly rolled onto his back and fell into a deep sleep. I sat there, completely awestruck at what I had just witnessed! From that moment on, I knew that Chiropractic was the path that I was destined to follow.
A Chiropractic Education
Dr. Iva began her pre-chiropractic education at Hocking College in Nelsonville, Ohio, and at COSM in Columbus, Ohio, where she studied human anatomy and physiology as well as Massage Therapy courses, earning her Massage Therapy degree and Associate in Accounting degree in 1999.
After completing her pre-chiropractic studies, she was accepted at Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa. During her four years at Palmer, she excelled in courses on human anatomy and physiology, as well as biochemistry, x-ray diagnosis, chiropractic adjusting techniques and philosophy. She also learned patient care and fine-tuned her adjusting techniques while performing her internship at the Palmer College Chiropractic Clinic. After graduating in February 2006, she began practicing with her husband, Dr. Brian Hughes, and her father-in-law, Dr. Douglas Hughes, Jr., in Rock Hill, South Carolina.
Women, Children and Chiropractic
“I love working with children, as well as women of all ages, but especially those in their child-bearing years. The birth process is one of the most physically traumatic experiences each of us go through as a child, and it is the most physically demanding process a woman will ever have to experience. I have seen the huge difference chiropractic can make in a small child’s life, and I hope that I can encourage everyone to see how chiropractic can help their children to flourish. I also have experienced first hand how getting regular chiropractic adjustments throughout my pregnancy, not only helped me to feel great, but it also helped my labor and delivery to progress quickly without the need for any medical interventions. It is my goal to encourage and educate all of my patients about the wonderful intelligence they already possess in their bodies that chiropractic helps to maintain.
On a Personal Note...
Dr. Iva is married to Dr. Brian, and they have two wonderful children (Ayden & Brady). Both Ayden and Brady were born with the help of a midwife naturally-no IVs, no fetal monitors, and no painkillers. Ayden and Brady both received their first chiropractic adjustments when they were only a few days old. Ayden & Brady continue to get regular chiropractic check-ups, and have never received any vaccinations (if that sounds weird, ask us why).I feel that there is not just “one thing” that a person can do to live a life of true health. In my own life, I feel that a combination of regular chiropractic care, physical activity, proper diet, healthy relationships, spirituality, and a positive outlook on life all play an equally important role in keeping me healthy not only physically, but also mentally and emotionally.
